Dukes in Canada, pt. 3

by: Essy Jane

Inside the police station…

“I’d finger print you but there really isn’t any point Kee-kee. Bo, it’s
nothing against you. It’s just the first time I’ve been honest in weeks. I
find it the top joke of the day.” Bo sneered at him as Rosco opened the jail
cell door.

“Why now?” Bo asked.

“That one’s none of your business.” Rosco walked upstairs leaving Bo
downstairs by himself. Giving him a chance to escape but Bo saw no need. He
knew that Cooter saw him and would get Luke over. In the mean time, Bo would
just sit tight and wait for Luke. At times like this, don’t you wish Uncle
Jesse were here?

About 10 minutes later, Luke came storming through the doors like Uncle
Jesse normally did. With Jud at his side, kind of like Daisy running to give
Rosco a piece of her mind. “Rosco, you had no right to lock up my cousin!”
Jud yelled. You could feel the anger soar through him.

“I had a right! He didn’t pay his tickets!” Rosco yelled back.

“Most of them are phonies and you know it,” Luke stated.

“But he still needs them tickets paid off to get out of here.”

“How much?”

“For what?”

“The tickets! How much does Bo have to pay y’all?”

“$500 for the tickets and $1000 for bail.”

“$1500! You know we can’t pay that!”

“You can and will on account of your cousin breaking the law,” Boss Hogg
stated.

“Boss, I’ll pay the money,” Jud interrupted.

“No!”

“Jud, there’s no way we’d accept your money like that,” Luke told him.

“Bro, I’m just trying to help my cousin out.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll find a way out.”

“You’re not sellin’ the General.”

“It ain’t mine to sell. Me and Bo’s gotta make that decision together.”

“How then? I’d give ya the money and you know I’m good for it.”

“It ain’t happening.”

“Then how?

“How about you boys box for me? It’ll pay off your cousin’s debt,” Boss Hogg
interrupted.

“And why would we do that?” Luke asked.

“Because your cousin’s bail could raise a might.”

Luke looked at Jud and Jud shook his head. “We’ll do it.”

Bo was sitting downstairs with Enos playing checkers. It was a nice sight to
see. Bo always won but at least he gave Enos some advice. Bo looked up as he
heard footsteps going down the stairs. He stood up and looked at his dark
haired cousins. He knew by the look on their faces that he’d be spending
some time behind closed doors and bars. “What do you have to do for him this
time?” Bo asked. Luke started jabbing with his brother. “Again?” Luke
nodded. “That Boss Hogg’s gone too far!”

“I hear ya cousin,” Jud replied. He was cross at Luke for not letting him
pay Bo’s bail or his tickets.

“Jud you know we couldn’t let you do that,” Luke exclaimed.

“Do what?” Bo asked.

“Pay for you to get out.”

“No way he’d be doin’ that! We couldn’t have you wasting your money on a
cousin.”

“I heard that, us Dukes love jail.”

“No, we just attract to jail like honey with flies.”

“Yeah.”

Jud frowned. He loved his cousin, just as much as his brother. Both were
willing to give up their lives for a total stranger. Jud wanted to find a
way to repay his brother and Bo. They did so much for him.

“Two weeks and I’ll be out of this dump,” Bo changed the subject. Though
Luke still had a very bad feeling about leaving Bo there. He couldn’t figure
out why.

The next day, inside the jailhouse…

Rosco brought down some company for Bo. He wasn’t a friend or even a
friendly enemy. It was big old Milo Beaudry. Not the kind of company you’d
want when stuck in a cell but then again, Bo had no choice. “Here you are
Bo, a friend to play with. Sorry I have to stick him in your cell, I don’t
want him close to the window. Kee-jee-jee,” Rosco stated.

“So you want me dead? Rosco, why don’t you put me by the window and you
won’t have any problems,” Bo replied.

“Are you kidding me? You Dukes are tricky.”

“The put him by the window.”

“No way.”

“Why not!?”

“Because them Beaudrys’s is tricky too.”

Bo looked up at Milo and smiled. He didn’t know what to even say to him.
Milo punched him in the face and laughed as he fell to the ground. It left
Bo unconscious for a while. Believe you me.
