Mystical Hazzard, pt. 7

by: Essy Jane

Well, Bo had been here for a month. It was a lot of fun hanging around. We solved crimes and such. I didn’t mind his company all that much. We were very good friends. That is until Essy and Uncle Jesse played one nasty little trick.

It all started while Bo and I were chasing after another adventure. Essy and Uncle Jesse were playing checkers. She had him cornered for once. “Hey Uncle Jesse, I think they should be together,” Essy said that afternoon as she made her move. Uncle Jesse moved one of his pieces.

“Yeah but it is not for me to get involved,” Jesse replied.

“Hey, if it makes him happy, why not?”

“You do have a point there Miss Essy but we could never get Nancy and Bo together long enough before they would figure out they liked each other.”

“Sure we could. Now all we have to do is make it looks like you’re being kidnapped and…”

“That’s too drastic. I think we should make it look like someone has a crush on them and…”

“Perfect. Jesse, you’re a genius!”

Well sure enough, they’re plan worked. I found this note saying how much this guy loved me and that I was to meet him in the old wear house across from the coffin factory. Bo was already there. “You are the one that has a crush on me?” Bo asked.

“Oh yeah right, I would never have a crush on you. Dream on Bo Duke!” Nancy exclaimed.

“Then why did you ask me to come here?”

“No, why did you ask me to come here?”

“You just feel embarrassed to admit that you like me.”

“Why you pompous windbag! I don’t like you!” Suddenly we heard this wild screech, the door was closing. We both made our way up but couldn’t manage to get there in time. We banged on the door violently wondering if we would ever get out. Then we saw the spread set on the table. “Okay, now I know what’s going on. Essy!”

“Essy?”

“Yeah, Essy-Jane Duke. That little monster.”

“What did she do?”

“Oh what she did was lock us in here. She isn’t alone in this act. Look, Uncle Jesse’s checkered board.” Bo smiled as he started laughing. “What’s so funny?”

“They think we’re goanna fall in love!”

“That’s ridiculous! How could we fall in love?”

“Don’t you see Nancy, we already have.” No! I wouldn’t admit it. “All Uncle Jesse and Essy had to do was get us together long enough so we would both see it.”

“Well they were wrong because I don’t.” Bo shook his head as he pulled me closer to him. I tried to pull away but he wouldn’t let me. He kissed me and suddenly I melted right into his arms. He held me really close. My eyebrows rose. I didn’t know what to think. There he was—all along and I didn’t see it. Well, he was my match. And I couldn’t not and would not deny it.

When we got out, we thanked the two and walked out of the building holding hands. What a moment, in Hazzard. Even though Bo went back on the road, I knew he would be back and that someday we would be married.
