Dukes of Hazzard on air June 6, 2014…maybe!

BoandGL011814Dukes news! A Dukes of Hazzard marathon is scheduled for Friday, June 6 starting at noon eastern on CMT.

Per reports from fans, CMT has advertised this on their broadcast station, though it has NOT been updated on their facebook page or website.

For this reason, we’re sharing the news as we have it, but we can’t promise it’s 100% accurate, since CMT isn’t being consistent across its own media.

Cable TV schedules from Time Warner and Optimum also show the Dukes airing June 6 starting at noon eastern, 11:00 a.m. central. It’s interesting that CMT’s own facebook page and website isn’t confirming this as of yet. They’re probably too busy promoting “Party Down South.”

The Dukes of Hazzard Disappear from CMT Schedule; Temporary Hiatus or Discontinued?

BoLukeWaiting (2)Is it over so soon? After years of absence from the air, CMT had brought back The Dukes of Hazzard to its lineup last January, running multiple all-day marathons and daily episodes. Yet this particular return of the Dukes seemed a bit strange.

Maybe it was the fact that the Dukes of Hazzard episodes were aired in random order. Or the fact they were in such heavy rotation right off the bat. Or the fact that “Party Down South” commercials were given nearly as much airtime as the Dukes episodes. We speculated in a prior post that maybe CMT was just using the Dukes to pimp their other crappy programming.

Well…maybe they were. A quick visit to the Dukes page on CMT’s website shows no Dukes of Hazzard episodes scheduled in the upcoming week. Is it a short break while CMT organizes the summer lineup? Or dismissal until further notice? Given how CMT has handled the show – with heavy repetition of the same episodes, erratic air times and chopping for excessive commercials – it may be no loss.

CMT clearly capitalized on the popularity of The Dukes of Hazzard to promote Party Down South. After renewing the crap that is PDS for a second season, CMT appears to have shelved the Dukes again. We could be wrong. But having watched CMT vigorously promote, and then defend, PDS as the most popular offering in its lineup (which tells you how far this channel has sunk) we have little reason for optimism.

Dukes of Hazzard Fanfic.com website revamps

CooterWDukesYou might have noticed that we’re running  a little sluggish lately. Not just us, the website! Ya see, we have the happy problem of getting more traffic than expected. It’s bogging down our cheap, crappy hosting service.

This means that out site “stalls out” once in awhile and takes too long to load. If that happens, please refresh the page and it should pop right up.

In the meantime, we are working on a permanent solution to this problem. Namely, upgrading our hosting service and connecting all the dots to it. Since we are not technical wizards, this should provide vast amusement for our competition. But being dense has never stopped us before, and it won’t now! We’ll be running better than ever in the near future. We thank you for your patience!

And don’t forget, the Dukes of Hazzard is being aired weekdays on CMT! Check your local listings for air times and episodes!

Do you want to get paid for writing? Advice from Dukes of Hazzard fanfic authors who are making a living despite themselves.

There’s an old adage that says if your writing don’t get ya paid, it should at least get you laid. We can help you with one out of two.

First, some disclaimers: nobody here makes a living by writing Dukes of Hazzard fanfic. (yet!) However, some of us have sold short stories to magazines, freelanced to companies and direct clients, and generated hundreds of pages of blogs and articles for the web. Two of us are currently full-time writers. Others among us are happily writing for the joy of it, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The common denominator in our group is not a college degree. Instead, it is countless hours, days, weeks, months and years spent writing fanfic. By working with a known universe and known characters, we were free to hone our writing and technical skills. So if anybody ever tells you that writing fanfic is a waste of time, tell ’em to stuff it.

For those of ya’ll who want to get paid for writing, we have a couple recommendations for you. Elance offers a variety of writing projects, from 400-word blog posts to ebooks. The downside is, they are saturated with writers and the pay can be pretty low. Still, it’s a great site for networking, and you could latch on to a good-paying client once you’ve established yourself.

Another option: get familiar with a book called the 2014 Writer’s Market. It includes how-to’s on query letters, contracts, blogging for a living, and a big-ass list of book publishers and magazines that accept freelance material. It tells you what they’re looking for, what they pay, and how to contact them.

Our next bit of advice? Easy. 1) Write. 2) Do something with it.  This means reaching out of your comfort zone, contacting people, and being receptive to criticism so you can deliver what they’re looking for. Eventually, you will land that 3-book deal with an option on the movie rights. But you gotta be willing to do the work, and stick your neck out.

Go for it!
