Dukes in Canada, pt. 4

Later…

Enos went to give the fellas their lunch when he saw Bo laying on the floor
out like a light. Now his immediate reaction was to go see if Bo was okay.
That isn’t a bad thing to do for a friend. But when you forget to take your
gun off that can be a problem. He went into the cell and knelt down beside
Bo, patting his face. Milo grabbed the gun and pointed it at Bo’s head as he
picked him up. “You better not try anything copper or your buddy over here
is gonna die,” Milo stated.

Enos looked at Bo with a deep concern. He sat down on the bed and let Milo
lock him in the cell. Milo looked at Bo, who was still very knocked out and
laughed. Always was a wimp, he thought to himself. As he got upstairs,
naturally, Rosco gave Milo the gun and he too was locked in a cell.

Milo went outside and carried Bo with him. He jumped into Rosco’s police
car. He tried to start the engine but it wasn’t working so well. In fact,
the machine was broken. He kept trying to start it with no luck.

Now Cooter across the street could hear a broken engine from just anywhere.
He looked up from General’s hood and saw Bo in the car. Well, not all of Bo,
just that mop of hair. Then Cooter saw an even worse sight, Milo Beaudry in
the front seat. He had no time to radio the boys about it.

Milo switched cars, taking Enos’ car instead, with Bo at his side. Cooter
put the General’s hood down, jumped in and followed. “I might be crazy but I
ain’t dumb, this is Crazy Cooter lookin’ for lost sheep number one. Are ya
out there Luke buddy?” Cooter asked.

“This is the lamb named Luke comin’ at ya. What do you need Crazy?” Luke
replied.

“I need a road block at Indian pass. It’s important, gravely important.”

“Can I hear a reason?”

“Milo’s got Bo, good enough reason?”

“What!? How?”

“Boss brought him in for threatenin’.”

“Okay, I’m on my way.”

Milo finally noticed the orange car driving close behind him. He got scared
and turned off towards another road. Bo was just starting to wake up. He
heard an engine and figured he wasn’t in the jail cell anymore.

He opened his eyes all the way and saw Milo. Bo laughed as Milo looked at
him. “I’m going to rest again aren’t I?” Bo asked. Milo nodded as he hit Bo
again and of course he was out cold. Milo was having too much fun, because
he didn’t realize he was heading for a cliff. He was going 100 miles per
hour, to much speed to just shove the breaks on. By the time he realized it
was too late to turn. The car went over the cliff just as Milo jumped out.

Cooter put on his breaks and jumped out of the car. “Bo! Oh no! Bo!” Cooter
screamed. With Bo still out for the count, he was stuck in the car. Cooter
prayed and prayed that the car wouldn’t explode before he got down there.
Cooter rushed down and broke the window with his foot. Quickly grabbing Bo
by the collar. He dragged him out and made a run for it. But the explosion
of the gas sends them flying.

Cooter sits up, looking at Bo. He has many cuts and a few bruises that’ll
show up later. And 8 broken ribs, now friends, that’s painful. But the thing
that really hurt him were those hits from Milo. He’s got a sore jaw. Not
broken, just sore.

Of course Cooter called an ambulance and got Bo rushed to emergency. He then
called Luke and told him on the CB where he was. Bo came out of the hospital
by the time Luke got there. He looked pretty good considering what he’d been
through. The Dukes figured they were home free. Well, they weren’t. There
was Enos waiting to take Bo back into custody.

“Enos can’t you cut him a break? He’s injured,” Jud exclaimed.

“I’m sorry Jud, really I am. Boss said that he needs Bo in a jail cell until
you fellas can pay off his debt,” Enos answered.

“Isn’t there anyway out?”

“No, Boss says that Bo can just take his medication in a jail cell. Then he
said that I can be his mom for the next two weeks.”

“I’ll kill him myself! Bo’s sick and he doesn’t even care about that.”

“I know, it hurts me too, I’m just followin’ orders though.”

Enos sighed as he put Bo in the police car. Bo was quiet on the trip back up
to Hazzard. He felt kind of dizzy and most of all tired. He had many
problems with his breathing. Each breath was a new meaning of unavoidable
pain. Bo just wanted to lie in his own bed.

As they got to the police station, he noticed a change in the cell. Enos
made the room more comfortable by adding lots of pillows and blankets. “I
hope this is better for you,” Enos stated. He frowned as he put Bo in his
cell. Rosco came down, looking at Bo as he lay down on all those pillows.

“Good grief Enos! How many pillows does one man need?” Rosco screamed.

“You made him come back here while he was hurt, he needs some kind of
comfort Sheriff. You made me do this! He needs to be at home.”

“Well I’d like to send him home just like the next man but Boss said…”

“It ain’t right.”

“Of course it is.”

“It ain’t right to keep him locked up like he is. He’s sick and deserves a
soft bed surrounded by people he loves. You should get him next time. I’m a
friend of the Dukes, Bo’s friend. And it tears my heart open to see him
treated this way.”

“Enos, it’s not your place to question the law.”

“It is when it comes to my friends.”

“Enos…”

Rosco looked at Enos and shrugged. He walked back upstairs. “You didn’t have
to do that for me,” Bo mumbled.

“Bo, he shouldn’t be treating y’all like meat on a stick. You’re a human
being. It’s not fair.”

“I know. You want to play some checkers? I might fall asleep but I’ll do my
best to stay up.”

“Sure Bo.”
