Dukes in Canada, pt. 5

by: Essy Jane

Two weeks passed by mighty quick. Bo was still feeling a force of sickness.
Luke and Jud came to visit Bo before the match. “If he tries to make us box
each other I’m out,” Jud stated.

“No kidding, I wouldn’t want to be caught dead punching you out. We’ve been
practicing all week. Weight trainin’ the works,” Luke assured.

“Bo, I want you in a big soft bed when you come out.”

“Or at least a soft couch.”

“I guess I could go for that. Though the prison bed that Enos made is mighty
comfy. Good luck to y’all,” Bo said.

“Good luck yourself. You just stay rested and those ribs will heal in no
time,” Luke remarked.

“Well only if you promise not to get yourselves killed.”

“We promise.”

“I want to see my cousins pick me up not watch a funeral.”

“We got to go buddy, see you later.”

Enos had a marvelous plan that even Boss could disagree with. Bo goes to
watch the fight, provided he was handcuffed to Enos. So he went out to watch
the fight. As the bell dings Boss Hogg steps out. The one judging this
special event would be Enos, but since he was busy Cooter would do it.

“Welcome to Hazzard’s first duel boxing. In this corner we meet the
challengers weighing 220 and 225 pounds, is the Sampson Super stars,” Boss
was said, everyone booed the two boys, “In this corner, weighing 230 and 225
the champions Killer Kane and the Duke of Death,”-everyone began
cheering-“So, what are the rules Cooter?”

“Y’all, I want to see a good clean fight. When the bell rings its time to
battle. Only one teammate in at a time and you must tag the partner. Now
when one of you tag, the opposite team must go to their side of the ring or
you will be out of the game. Deal?”

Cooter stated. All members fighting nodded. “Luke heads or tails?”

“Tails?” Luke replied.

“I guess you get heads then, Jud.” Cooter flipped the coin to see who would
go in first. It was tails. I guess Luke would be their starting man. The
other team had two boys, Homer and Leo Sampson. Homer would go on first, he
being at 220. Luke was heavier but sometimes you can use weight against
people. Like in wrestling. But in this case, it didn’t really matter.

As the bell rang, both guys circled around the ring. Looking at each other.
Who would make the first move? Why Luke of course. Luke gave him an upper
cut to the chest, knocking the wind out of poor old Homer.

Luke kept going giving Homer left hooks all around until Homer finally got
mad enough to defend himself. Homer did a power punch aimed directly below
the nose. Luke’s eyes began to tear. That gave Homer an advantage.

He gave Luke a right hook but Luke recovered giving another upper cut and
three blows to the face, knocking Homer out. The Dukes won this round. He
was down for the count and not getting back up. Luke sat down feeling kind
of dazed. “Hey big guy,” He heard Bo say behind him.

“Bo? How’d you get out of jail?” Luke asked.

“Easy, I brought Enos along.” Bo smiled showing Luke the handcuff on his
right arm. “I really wish I could’ve come here in style but well you know.”
Bo began coughing as he held his chest.

“Bo!”

“It’s okay, it just hurts sometimes. I haven’t figured out how to breathe
yet. These broken ribs are a pain.”

Luke clenched his teeth together. He was going switch with Jud but decided
not to. He wanted to hit something hard. So Luke beat both the guys and Jud
just stood at the side and watched. The only pleasure that Jud had was that
Bo was released from custody. Enos was happy to take them handcuffs off.
