More to Christmas

by: Lizzy Jackson-Davenport

Soft giggles could be heard through out the house when Lizzy opened the door after her trip to town. “Hush girls or your mom will hear.” A male voice floated from the back bedroom.

“Daddy, Mommy’s gone to town.” The oldest girl answered.

Lizzy smiled at the thought of what they could be doing but knew this was probably why they had sent her town so she wouldn’t find out. She decided it would be best if she sat down on the couch and listened. “So this one is from whom again?” The man asked.

“From me Daddy.” The oldest girl spoke again.

“From me?” The man teased.

“No, me Daddy.”

“You?”

“Yes me.”

“And this one?” So that’s what they were doing, wrapping Christmas presents. They had wrapped the girls’ presents the night before but she knew it would be just like him to wait till the last minute to wrap her’s.

“From me Daddy.” The younger girl answered this time barely managing to keep her voice down.

“Her?” He was no doubt referring to their older girl, Kelly, again.

“No Daddy.”

“Me?”

“Daddy.” The girl whined.

“Want a little cheese with that whine?” The man’s voice was now clearly recognizable as her husband, Bo Duke.

“I’m sorry Daddy.” No doubt 4-year-old Sarah’s big brown eyes were giving her father the patented puppy dog pout that got her just about anything.

“It’s alright so this one’s from my little angel?” Bo replied. Sarah would probably nod causing Bo to move on. “And this one?”

“From you.” Both girls squealed. By the squeals you probably wouldn’t able to tell Kelly was eight.

“You two?” Bo asked only Lizzy could tell that he was holding in his laughter.

“No, from you Daddy.” Kelly said in her most no-nonsense voice.

“Kelly, Sarah.” Lizzy called.

“Go on before your Mom comes in here looking for you two and ruins the surprise.” Bo says. Suddenly there was the patter of footsteps and then the couch sank on both sides.

“Mommy!” The girls chorused. Lizzy could see it in their eyes but anticipated it.

“Careful girls you wouldn’t want to hurt Mommy or the new baby do you?” Lizzy asked placing her hands protectively over her stomach.

“Sorry Mommy.” The girls said. “Sorry baby sister.” They continued speaking to her overly large stomach.

“Be gentle and give Mommy a hug.” Lizzy said. Both girls were gentle as they did what she asked.

A bit later Bo had the Mouse packed and ready to go to his Uncle’s farm with the only thing missing being his wife. “Lizzy let’s go.” He called.

“I’m coming just give me a minute.” She called back slowly walking out of the house and down to the car. “I feel like a beached whale.”

“But you look as gorgeous as you ever did.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m not fat.” Lizzy pouted.

“You’re nine months pregnant with my third child, you’re not fat. Now come on we promised them we’d be there before supper.”

“I’m sorry Bo.”

“Don’t worry about it. You’re allowed to be crabby.” Bo said. Lizzy got into the car as Bo slid behind the wheel. “You’re beautiful pregnant or not. No matter what you look like you will always be the girl I feel in love with and married.”

“I know it’s Christmas Eve but you don’t have to get all sentimental.”

“I just want you to know I love you.”

“Love you too.” Lizzy said stretching over to kiss Bo on the cheek.

“Ewww.” The girls cried.

“You won’t say that soon enough.” Lizzy responded smiling at her angels.

Soon they made it to the Duke farm. When Bo shut off the engine Cooter was there opening Lizzy’s door and holding out a hand for her. “Grandpa.” The girls cried from the backseat. Cooter helped Lizzy from the car then turned to the backseat.

“And how are my angels?” Cooter asked releasing Sarah’s seatbelt. The girls climbed out of the backseat and hugged their grandfather before racing up the stairs to the front door. “Everyone else is here already and Daisy says the turkey is almost done. We were just waiting on you to get here.”

The Dukes went inside and joined the rest of the growing family. Luke had finally settled down with a sweet redhead named Tina and had four rambunctious little boys ranging from three to 12. Daisy had also gotten over her fright of marriage and settled down with Enos and had a five year old little boy named Trent who they spoiled with the most love they could give him. So far Kelly and Sarah were the only girls in the family. Luke and Tina had been trying hard for a little girl but it hadn’t happen. Uncle Jesse came in out of the kitchen just in time to see the four youngest boys spot Lizzy.

“Aunt Lizzy.” They shouted running to hug her.

“Easy boys.” Uncle Jesse called. The boys slowed and Lizzy knelt down to hug them softly.

“You don’t want to hurt your Aunt or your baby cousin do you?” Bo asked. The boys shook their heads.

“Let’s see here, there’s my little Mattie, you must be what 8?” Lizzy asked hugging him.

“Nine Aunt Lizzy.” Mattie answered.

“And of course sweet Dan, you’re five right?” Lizzy asked. Dan nodded receiving his hug. “Trent, my sweet five year old as well.” Lizzy said hugging him as well.

“Aunty Lizzy.” Trent whined. With a stern look from Lizzy, Trent smiled.

“And of course my little Joey.” Lizzy said taking three year old Joey into her arms. He and Sarah shared the only blonde hair of the kids. Everyone else had either dark brown or red hair. “Now where is the one that’s missing?” Lizzy muttered to herself slowly rising.

“Hey Lizzy.” Enos said.

“Hey Enos, Daisy.” Lizzy said placing a hand protectively over her stomach and one on the small of her back. “I can not wait for the next two weeks to be over.”

“Here have a seat.” Enos says standing up from his middle cushion on the couch.

“Thank you.” Lizzy said sitting and looking at the four boys. “Boys, say hello to your cousins.” Four heads turned in unison to Bo’s legs where the two girls were hiding.

“Hi girls.” The boys chorused. Lizzy looked around and finally spotted the missing cousin. Luke’s oldest boy Jesse Franklin, named after his great uncle and Tina’s grandfather, was playing his game boy next to her.

“Jess, put down the game boy and say hello to your Aunt and Uncle.” Luke scolded.

“They’re my second cousins Dad not my Aunt and Uncle.” Jess answered.

“Jesse, I will only count to three…”

“Leave him alone Luke, he’s got a point.” Lizzy answered.

“Don’t like family gatherings?” Bo asked. Jess just grunted. That’s when Kelly came over. It seemed that instead of hanging around with Mattie who was closer to her own age she liked to be with Jess. Jess wasn’t too happy about it.

“What ya doing?” Kelly asked.

“Playing a game now leave me alone.” Jess snapped. Luke pulled the game boy out of Jess’s hands and glared.

“Don’t snap at her. I raised you better than that.” Luke said.

“Dad.” Jess complained.

“You heard me Jesse, now apologize.” Luke replied.

“I hate you.” Jess spat. “Billy’s dad lets him do what ever he wants. He never makes him go spend time with boring family when he should be fishing.” With that Jess stormed out of the room and shortly a door was slammed shut.

“Luke, give me a hand.” Lizzy stated sticking her hand out.

“Lizzy maybe…” Bo started but Luke had already helped her up.

“Daddy did I make him mad?” Kelly asked.

“No honey.” Bo reassured his daughter. Lizzy made her way down the hallway and into Bo and Luke’s old room. She laughed as she saw Jess on his dad’s bed.

“That was your dad’s bed till he moved out.”

“I don’t care leave me alone.”

“Jess, why don’t we just talk for a bit or I’ll force you to listen to stories about your Great Uncle’s day.”

“Why do we have to be here? Dad and I always go fishin’ on Christmas Eve and we’d bring home what we caught so Mama could fry it up. Then Mattie started coming and it wasn’t so bad but now we have to be here. It isn’t fair. Did you know Billy gets to go Florida for Christmas? His dad is taking him to Disney World and then he’s gonna go to the Super Bowl as well. Billy said Dad’s too busy trying to get Mom pregnant again to care about me anymore.”

“You know your Dad loves you and he doesn’t want to hurt you but this is the first year the entire family has been back in Hazzard for Christmas and your Uncle Jesse asked your daddy, Bo, and Daisy to stop by the farm on Christmas Eve. It ain’t fair for you to blame your daddy for followin’ his uncle’s directions. Now who is this Billy you’re talking about?”

“Only the coolest kid in 7th grade. His dad buys him all the newest toys and games. He even brought his DS to school once.”

“Does this Billy have a last name?”

“Hogg, say’s his dad is Hughie Hogg and he’s related to Boss Hogg.” Lizzy felt a sharp pain run through her side as her hand instantly jumped to it. “Are you alright Aunt Lizzy?” Jess asked scrambling to her side. “Do you want me to get Dad or Uncle Bo?”

“No, I’m fine Jess. They call them Braxton Hix contractions. It just warns you that you could go into labor at any time. It’ll pass. Now you really think Billy’s going to Disney World for Christmas?”

“That’s what he says.”

“I’ll bet you he’s in town right now having dinner with his dad and great uncle.” Lizzy said. Ever since Luke and Tina had decided to move back to town from California right before school started Jess had been having a hard time adjusting.

“No way.” Jess said.

“Bet ya anything.”

“The new Mario game.”

“Against no complaining about Kelly tonight.”

“Deal.” Lizzy and Jess shook on it.

Lizzy pulled out her cell phone and called the Hoggs’. “Hogg residence this is Lulu.” Lulu’s strong voice came over the line.

“Mrs. Lulu and how are you this fine day?” Lizzy asked.

“I’m good darlin’ isn’t this Lizzy Duke?” Lulu asked.

“Yes ma’am it is.”

“How are you dear? And you did marry that Duke boy a few years back didn’t you?”

“Yes ma’am I’m doing well thank you, I was actually wondering if I could speak with that charming nephew of your’s, Hughie.”

“Of course darlin’ just a minute.” Lizzy heard a bit of shuffling in the background as she looked at Jess.

“This is Hughie.” Hughie’s voice was strong over the speaker phone.

“Hey it’s Lizzy.”

“Davenport?”

“It’s Duke now.”

“Right I remember that. What can I do for you?”

“Do you have a son named Billy?”

“Yes why?”

“Are you taking him to Disney World tomorrow?”

“Billy, get in here.” Lizzy heard him call.

“What Dad?” Lizzy assumed that was Billy.

“Who’d you tell that you were going to Disney World tomorrow?” Hughie asked his son.

“What are you talking about?” Billy replied.

“Lizzy where did you here this at?”

“My seventh grade nephew Jess.”

“While I can afford to take him down there I never said I would. The only thing I said was if he behaved himself tonight and tomorrow I’d think about taking him to the Super Bowl. Have you been bragging again?” Hughie asked the last part more towards his son.

“No Dad.” Billy said slightly frightened.

“Jess told me that Billy told his home room class he was going to Disney World for Christmas and you were also taking him to the Super Bowl.” Lizzy informed him.

“I’ll deal with you later Billy.” Hughie said.

“Go easy on the boy it’s hard to look cool in seventh grade Hughie.” Lizzy says.

“Uncle Boss was gracious enough to invite us down for today and tomorrow. I assume you’re back at the Duke farm like tradition.”

“Yup and now I’ve got to go. Merry Christmas Hughie.”

“Merry Christmas Lizzy.” Lizzy hung up and looked at Jess.

“So was that really why you’re moody?” He shrugged. “I do believe you owe me a favor.”

“I know but she’s kinda annoying.”

“Only because she loves you so much. You manage with three little brothers and that astounds her.”

“You think?”

“I know. Now do me another favor.”

“Sure.”

“Don’t complain about having to sit at the kids’ table.” Lizzy said putting a hand on the top of her stomach again.

“But…”

“You know I had to sit at the kids’ table until I was 15?”

“But you’re so cool Aunt Lizzy.”

“Yeah I know and I’m hoping it’s rubbed off on a boy I know.”

“How come you’re not my mom?”

“Because as much as I love your dad, he’s more like a brother than a man I could think of the way I love Bo, or the way your mom loves your dad.”

“But still, Mom and Dad can have Kelly and I’ll live at your house. Uncle Bo’s always wanted a boy.” Jess said.

“That’s no secret.” Lizzy muttered. “It’d be cool until you made me angry and wanted to go live with your mom and dad again.”

“Right, are you sure you’re ok Aunt Lizzy.” Jesse asked seeing the panicked look on her face.

“I’m fine.”

A little while later everyone was seated at their tables and to please Lizzy, Jess didn’t say a word. Uncle Jesse gave the blessing and the food was served. Halfway through the dinner Tina stood up. “Luke and I have some good news.”

“Really?” Bo asked.

“Tell us.” Daisy prodded.

“We’re gonna have another baby.” Tina said extremely excited. Amidst the excitement Lizzy’s gaze turned to the kids’ table where Jess was staring determinedly at his plate.

“Uncle Jesse.” Lizzy said softly. Uncle Jesse looked at Lizzy who nodded to Jess.

“Excuse me.” Uncle Jesse said softly. He stood and walked to the kids’ table where he crouched next to Jess. After a hushed conversation Jess looked up and smiled. Uncle Jesse returned to the table and dinner went on.

“Aunt Lizzy are you alright?” Jess asked out of no where.

“Yeah. I’m fine Jess.” Lizzy answered.

“It’s just that you’ve…” the rest of Jess’s statement was lost to Lizzy’s ears as a very sharp contraction hit her. She dropped her fork as one hand landed on her large stomach and the other had a death grip on Bo’s.

“Sweetie?” Bo asked.

“If you don’t get me to the hospital in the next 10 minutes this baby will be born on the kitchen floor.”

“You’re not due for two weeks.” Bo said.

“Due or not, this baby is coming.” Lizzy swore.

Uncle Jesse heard the threat and knew the danger so he burst into action. “Tell me what’s going on Lizzy.” Uncle Jesse said rushing to her side.

“My water just broke.” Lizzy gasped. Both Uncle Jesse and Bo looked down to see a puddle forming on the floor.

“Bo, get her into the Mouse, backseat is the safest. Enos, go with them. Jess, Daisy, Tina I need your help to get the kids into the minivan and the jeep. Luke, call Doc. Appleby tell him we’re on our way. Go now.” Suddenly the house was a flutter of movement as everyone responded.

Appleby was just about to go home when he got the call but promised he’d stay. “Trish, prepare room 3 we’ve got a baby coming.”

“Who?” Trish asked. As far as she knew there weren’t any babies in the county and the only one pregnant was Lizzy Duke and Belle Carpenter.

“Lizzy Duke.”

“She’s not due for another two weeks.”

“I know, Luke just called and said that she’s in labor.” When Bo pulled up and Doc met them outside Lizzy was hyperventilating worrying all three men. “Breathe Lizzy or you’ll harm the baby.” Doc ordered.

“I am breathing it just hurts.”

“You’ve been through this twice before and you know it’s gonna hurt. We can give you an epidural for the pain but you have to start breathing and calm down a bit first.” Appleby said helping Lizzy into the room and up onto the table.

“I’m trying.” Lizzy answered.

“You can do it honey, for the baby.” Bo said.

“You think?” Lizzy asked her big blue eyes pleading with him.

“I know. It’ll be ok, you’ll do fine.”

“I’m scared Bo.”

“I know honey, but you’ll be fine and I won’t leave.”

“But what if it’s another girl?”

“Then we can keep trying for that boy. No matter what I love both of you now please, honey relax.” It was really no secret anymore that Bo had wanted a boy since the day Lizzy had finally said I do.

“Alright Lizzy lay back so we can get these jeans off and see how far you’ve dilated.” Appleby said.

“Mr. Duke you need to come with me to get cleaned up.” Trish said. Soon Bo was back at Lizzy’s side dressed in scrubs and washing down her forehead.

Out in the waiting room Sarah wouldn’t stop crying and Kelly was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Remembering what his aunt had told him and feeling more in the spirit Jess dug through his brother’s activity bag and pulled out a coloring book. “Sarah, look what I have.” He said. Sarah rubbed her runny nose and sniffled. “Come color a pretty ducky for you mom and baby sister ok.” He tempted. Sarah nodded and sat down to color. “You want to color too Kel?” She shook her head. “Then you want to play a game?” Kelly cocked her head and looked at Jess. “Come here then.” Kelly came and squished into the chair with Jess. He explained the game to her if only to keep her calm.

Five hours later an ear shattering cry woke Daisy from her cat nap on Enos’ shoulder. She found most of the kids were asleep along with Luke, Tina, and Enos. Only Uncle Jesse and his namesake were still awake. In Lizzy’s room Trish laid the baby and bundle of soft white blankets in Lizzy’s arms and smiled at the couple. “It’s a boy, congratulations.” She said.

“Lizzy, Bo, we need a name.” Appleby said holding the birth certificate.

Lizzy looked up at Bo who smiled and nodded. “Jeeter Jesse Duke.” Lizzy said.

“Perfect. Merry Christmas.” Doc Appleby said writing all the important details down.

“Doc, what was the time?” Bo asked.

“12:01 am.” Doc answered smiling.

“I think this is the best Christmas present you’ve ever given me Lizzy.” Bo said as the doctor walked out to inform the family.

“What did you wish for for Christmas Bo?” Lizzy asked.

“A baby boy and a healthy family. What was your Christmas wish then?”

“I haven’t gotten it since I was 17.” Lizzy said.

“Maybe there’s something I can do to change that.” Bo suggested.

“I don’t think so, we’ll just have to wait and see how the day goes.”

“Merry Christmas Lizzy.”

“Merry Christmas Bo.” Bo kissed his wife softly wondering what he could do to grant her Christmas wish. He knew she wished for the same thing every year but he had yet to figure out what it was.

“You have a visitor Lizzy.” Doc said sticking his head back in the door. Lizzy pulled back and smiled.

“Let him in.”

“Aunt Lizzy.” Jess said running to the bed.

“Shhh Jess, don’t wake him.” Lizzy replied. Jess sat down on the bed carefully and looked into the bundle of blankets.

“What’s his name?”

“Jeeter Jesse Duke.”

“That’s my name.” Bo smiled and looked at Lizzy who nodded. True the name had been originally after Uncle Jesse but Jess had been so helpful it wouldn’t hurt.

“You’ve been such a big help that we thought it appropriate. You did help keep the girls calm tonight right?” Bo asked. Jess nodded and turned to look out the window.

“JJ I think. Aunt Lizzy look it’s snowing.” Jess said excited.

“That’s strange; it hasn’t snowed in Hazzard on Christmas since…” Bo started.

“Since I was 17.” Lizzy whispered.

“It came true then?” Bo asked. Jess looked back at Lizzy and cocked an eyebrow, another thing that Kelly thought was so cool.

“Every year Jess, I make a wish right before I go to bed on Christmas Eve that it’ll snow on Christmas Day in Hazzard. Every year since I was 17 it hasn’t come true. Sure it’s snowed other times but I’ve always wanted a white Christmas. That’s the only thing I’ve ever really wanted. Snowfall. Doesn’t happen often but when it does I couldn’t be happier.” Jess looked at his aunt who was staring out the window and his uncle who was smiling down at his newborn son and realized that, like the movie he watched every Christmas, there really was more to Christmas than the gifts he begged his parents for. Jess secretly vowed to try and see more than the materialistic things in the future and to try and be more thankful for what he had. “Are you alright Jess? You seem awful quiet.” Lizzy asked.

“I’m fine Aunt Lizzy. Just thinking. He’s kinda cute.”

“Hey, can I come in.” Daisy asked sticking her head in the doorway.

“Sure, hey Jess do you want to hold him?” Lizzy asked.

“Are you sure it’ll be alright?” Jess asked. “I don’t want to drop him.”

“As long as you stay seated on the bed and Daisy helps you it’ll be alright.”

“Sure what do you say Jess?” Daisy asked.

“I guess.” Jess replied. Watching her nephew hold her newborn son with such care made Lizzy feel at peace and she knew that there would be hope for him and everything would be alright. Soon the entire family was in the room with Uncle Jesse holding his great nephew.

“Merry Christmas everyone.” Lizzy whispered to everyone before falling into a peaceful sleep. The first in a long time.

And this friends and neighbors is where we leave the Duke family enjoying the early hours of the morning and the glow of a new birth reminding them all that maybe there was something more to Christmas than first believed. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

T’was The Night Before Christmas, Hazzard Style

Adaptation by BL Davenport

Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Except B.L.’s mouse.
The stockings were hung
By the chimney with care
In hopes that General Lee
Soon would be there.
Lori nestled all snug in her bed
While visions of Luke danced in her head.
Daisy in her kerchief and Cooter in his cap
Had just settled down for a night cap.
When out in the yard
There was such a clatter,
Cooter sprang from the bed
To see what was the matter.
Away to the window he flew unlike flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
Gave the luster of midday to objects below.
When what to his wandering eyes should appear
But the General Lee coming near,
Bo at the wheel
And Luke shifting gears.
Uncle Jesse there in the back shouting and yelling
“Bo slow down before ya get us all killed”!
Dry leaves did fly
As they met with a road block, they mount to the sky
With a loud thump they landed on the roof.
As Cooter drew in his head and was turning around
Down the chimney Boss Hogg came with a bound.
He was dressed in his white
All covered in dirt oh what a sight!
With the help of Rosco and Enos he filled the kids stockings high with delight.
When he was done Enos giggled, while Rosco shushed “hush dipstick”.
They all turned with a jerk, and laying their fingers aside of their nose up the chimney they rose.
They climbed back in the General and I heard as they drove out of sight
The sounds of Dixie blare through the night.

Masquerade Halloween Ball

by: kgearren

It’s Halloween time in Hazzard and their is a full moon out tonight which means all the looney’s are gonna be out tonight.”

Bo and Luke was over at Mr Pepper ‘s Pumpkin Patch getting the pumpkins for the mascara-De ball at Hazzard High “,

unfortunetely Luke was taken a little too long picking out a pumpkin and Bo was starting to get very impatient with his cousin

so Bo said ” Luke c’mon cuz we have been here since 11:30 you need to pick one out soon it’s getting late cuz so hurry up”.

So Luke replied ” Okay Bo … sorry I”m having a little trouble making up my mind “, then Luke finally found one and it was a big one so he carried it over to Bo and the boys managed to check out and then walked over tot he General Lee “,

once the boys arrived back the farm and where getting ready for bed it didn’t take Luke long to fall asleep he was beat.

So early the next morning at the breakfast table Luke thought it would be funny if he threw eggs in Bo’s face “,

then Bo got upset he said ” that wasn’t funny Luke ” Luke laughed then he said ” sorry cuz it was kinda funny “,

A couple minutes later the school bus for Hazzard High showed up and Uncle Jesse said ” boys you better hurry up or you’ll

miss the bus so they hurried up and made out on time and when Luke got on the bus his girlfriend Suellen was so happy “,

” Luke I…  can’t wait till tonight i  can’t believe were actually having a mascara De ball and then Luke repliled ” well… Suellen

would you like to go with me ?”, then she said ” I sure would Luke honey what costume are you wearing ?”.

And Luke said ” well … I don’t quite know yet i was thinking of either a vampire or a  ghost “, Suellen said ” well…. I’m going as a pumpkin queen or witch who knows we may even win King And Queen at the Dance ?”.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bus Bo and his girlfriend megan was discussing the dance as well Bo was thinking of going as a troll or racecar driver “, and megan was thinking of being a mouse or a spooky creature then a couple minutes later the bus arrived at Hazzard High and the boys was sitting in homeroom talking about the dance and how great it will be,

then the morning annocements were made like the pumpkins for the dance , the dance will be at 8:00 pm -11:30 .

Later on that day when the boys were taking their chemistry exam Bo whispered a funny joke to Luke about how their teacher mr. Barker was starting to look like  bald as a baby’s bottom  which Luke laughed and unfortunetely at the same time their teacher had overheard and said ” excuse me Bo and Luke is their something you two would like to share ?”,

since Luke was too busy laughing Bo said ” um… no sir sorry for that “, then Mr. Barker walked over to Luke’s desk and he said ” Luke would you mind stop laughing ?”, Luke replied in muffled chuckles ” sorry …. mr. Barker… i’ll stop soon.

Then the boys finished their quiz and handed it in and happily they both got passing grades which is very unusal for them “.

At the end of the school day on the way home Luke told Bo that he was very happy about the dance tonight he can’t wait “,

so the bus dropped them off at the farm then the boys took the general over to the Hazzard County Costume shop to buy their costumes for the dance Luke’s first choice was a cowboy costume which he liked then Luke saw a spooky monster

costume that looked like something that crawled out of the ocean and he said ” I think I’ll stick with my first choice.

Meanwhile Bo was having a time trying to decide he couldn’t make up his mind he saw this one that was a mad sciencetist,

then he saw this one two headed monster costume but that looked too scary so he passed and until he finally decided on a

a vampire that seemed to fit him perfectly so he and Luke then checked out and were then on their way home to try them on.

Luke was the first to try his on and he said ” well I look pretty cool in this cowboy outfit hopefully i can pull it off and i have to wear my mask too considering it is a mystery dance “, meanwhile Bo was trying on his vampire costume then he was planning on scaring Luke with it and he put the fangs in and then he snuck behind Luke who was in their bedroom .

And he said  ” Luke I come to suck your blood ” , then he went to bite his neck and Luke jumped and then Bo laughed ,

” Oh Luke c’mon it’s just pretend what do you think of my costume cuz ?”, then Luke said ….. um….. well Bo it’s spooky.

then Bo said ” Luke you ain’t scared are you cuz you know it ain’t real “, Luke said ” I know but ….. you remember after i saw carrie I couldn’t sleep for 6 weeks “, Then Bo said ” I know Luke but that was just a movie and this is just a party,

” C’mon Luke let’s have some fun this will be so cool and we have to still pick up the girls we don’t wanna be late .

Meanwhile Bo and Luke’s girlfriend’s Megan and Suellen were waiting for the boys in their costumes they decided to pick up

Suellen first she was wearing a nice costume of a prom queen she had her mask with her too and Luke slided over so she could get in and she gave Luke a kiss and then they were off to pick up Megan and she was wearing a costume of a witch and her mask too and she said  ” well hey boys you sure look nice in your costumes then she got in and then they were off.

when they arrived at the high school the boys and girls made their way into the Gym and it looked haunted , spooky,

Luke offered to get Suellen some punch and she said ” sure  Luke thanks ” so he walked over to get her some punch ,

meanwhile Daisy who was dressed as bunny was dancing away with Enos and when she saw Luke over at the  table

she said ” well hey cousin you look so cute in your cowboy outfit “, Luke said thanks Daisy so do you darlin”,

then Daisy asked Luke who his date was and he said ” it’s Suellen i’m getting her some punch “,

then he made his way back over to her and he said ” here you go dear and she said ” thanks honey ” .

Later on that night Bo and Luke asked their dates to dance and they were out dancing the night away”, Luke was hoping to win Pumpkin King and Suellen was hoping to win Pumpkin Queen and Bo was hoping too but either way it didn’t matter.

A few hours later their was a bobbing for Apples contest Bo and Luke was the first to go at it Bo tried but he was having trouble but Luke wasn’t and he won he gave Suellen the apple “, then after that their was the pumpkin carving contest

Bo decided to carve his spooky , Luke made a funny looking one , and someone even carved a fish face on one “,

then the annocement was made as to who won and Bo was declared the winner “, and last but not least the one everyone has

been wating for the King and Queen contest : the winners for the Pumpkin king and Queen are : Luke Duke and Suellen Mcgraw and they were so happy Luke almost fainted and Suellen cried and they quick hurried onto the stage Luke was crowned king , Suellen Queen  then their princepal said ” now a special dance for our King and Queen then they went onto

the dance floor and the song was so romantic and they were so in love with one another it was almost like they were alone.

The dance lasted up until 12:00 am and when they arrived to Suellen’s house Luke walked her up and then he gave her a kiss

that she’ll never forgot and she also gave him one too that he’ll always remember and then the boys made their way over to Megan’s house and dropped her off and Bo walked her up and he said ‘ well um.. sorry that we didn’t win King and Queen “,

Then she said ” oh ..that’s okay Bo I’m not dissapointed I was just so happy being their with you and I love you they shared  a kiss too and then Bo walked back over to Luke who had stars in his eyes and he was so lost in thought that he didnt’ even

see Bo come in and Luke jumped when he heard the engine roar to life and Bo said ” Luke , Luke , earth to Luke !! “.

Then Luke replied ” sorry Bo I was just thinking about tonight and how much fun I had with Suellen I just love her so much,

then Bo said ” yeah I know what you mean i feel the same way about my girl “, anyway a couple minutes later the boys arrived back at the farm Daisy had gotton home earlier then they did they couldn’t wait to crawl into their beds have dreams about their soulmates Luke was fast off to sleep before Bo even got into his bed then they were off to dreamland .

The End

Snapshot

Spoiler: A short story that takes place on Halloween afternoon

It was a chilly albeit sunny October 31st as the Duke cousins stood outside conversing…

“Daisy, I saw you in town.” Bo insisted.

“I wasn’t,” Daisy replied. She turned and looked at Luke. “A lotta brown haired women in Hazzard County.”

“Um, hmm.” Luke agreed and smiled.

“The person was wearing a red brown jacket,” Bo said.

“I got that from a department store in the city,” Daisy commented gently. “You might want focus on your chores that need finished.” She suggested.

“Ok,” Bo responded. It probably wasn’t his cousin he saw near the library. “I gotta get my work gloves from inside, Luke.”

“Alright,” Luke said.

The youngest cousin walked from where the three stood by the hay wagon toward the farmhouse. He went inside to his bedroom. Bo pursed his lips in puzzlement at the calendula scent wavering from the room the boys shared. His eyebrows arched in surprise at the figure on his bed. The flowery scent from a candle on the dresser. He tiptoed over to the dresser and blew the candle flame out.

He turned and looked at the brown haired person. He did not say anything, took a few steps toward the bed. His boot kicked an object. Bo reached down and picked the item up. It was a book. He straightened his lanky frame back to a standing position. That’s why she’s in here, he thought to himself.

Instead of waking Daney, he went over to the window with intent of reading the journal. Figuring it was about cases that had been worked on or folklore yarn. There was a lot more topics than hauntings and strange creatures.

The text held his interest for several pages, until a low sob reverberated. He glanced at the bed. Daney was asleep. The radio on the dresser wasn’t turned on.
His attention went toward the doorway and no one was there.

He returned attention to the book, looking to see if it was from the library. He still felt like the person he saw in town, was someone he knew. Except there wasn’t a place where a due date slip had been glued and stamped. The back of the book, had hand written notes. Which made Bo even more interested in reading. Bo flipped back toward the front of the book. Stopping in the middle where there was more handwritten markings on the pages.

“I’m ok,” Bo heard the words, clear as a train whistle announcing it’s presence approaching a crossing. He glanced over to Daney and saw that she was still sleeping. He went over,put the book by the candle holder on the dresser. Then he walked over and brushed some stray hairs from Daney’s face. He noticed the small handheld tape recorder next to the pillow.

He grinned. That had to have been what made the noises. “Happy Halloween, cousin.” Bo whispered.

Then he went toward the living room to find his gloves. Maybe someday, he’d inquire more about the journal’s contents. Luke and Daisy were waiting outside for him to set up for the night time holiday festivities… caramel apples and ghost stories around a campfire.

Duke Farm

 It was a crisp autumn morning in Hazzard; fall was defiantly in the air. Jesse Duke continued harvesting. He could feel the morning sun energizing him. Daisy was in the kitchen preparing breakfast which consisted of apple cinnamon pancakes, bacon and eggs.

Bo woke up he glanced over at the clock, 6am he should have been up an hour ago to start his chores. He yawned and sat up and glanced over at the empty bed. He couldn’t help but feel empty inside, Luke was more than a cousin, he was like a brother to him. He changed his clothes and headed out the room.

“Mornin’ Daisy.” Bo greeted his cousin.

“Hey Bo.” Daisy said smiling and flipped a pancake. “You’re up a bit late, are you feelin okay?”

“Yea I’m fine.” Bo said as he poured himself a glass of orange juice. “I’m gonna do my chores and help Uncle Jesse.” He said as he finished the juice and headed outside.

“Its ok I did most of your chores.” Daisy said.

Bo smiled a bit. “Thanks cuz.” Bo said as he walked out to where Jesse was.

“Well morning sleepy head.” Uncle Jesse greeted his youngest nephew. “How come yer up so late?” He asked.

Bo went silent then sighed.

Jesse knew instantly what was wrong with Bo. “Ya miss him, don’t ya?” He asked.

“Uh huh, it just ain’t the same with out him here.” Bo said.

“I know son, but he’ll be back soon. “Jesse said smiling.

“I know.” Bo said as he continued helping Jesse.

~~~ 1 and ½ hours later ~~~
The three Dukes sat at the table and ate breakfast.
“These pancakes are great daisy.” Jesse said.
“Thanks Uncle Jesse, I got the recipe from a book.” Daisy smiled proudly.
“So what are y’all planning for after school?” Jesse asked.
“I’m meetin’ the guys and we’re gonna go hang out.” Bo said.
“ And I’m stayin after school to decorate the gym for the Halloween party.” Daisy said.
“ Okay then you two have fun.” Jesse said.
Hazzard High School.
The students and teachers were all getting into the spirit of Halloween. Bo walked into his class. It was lunch break Bo went to the table where Chris and Max were. They were juniors.
“ Hey Chris, whats up?” Bo said
Chris looked at his friend Max then to Bo. “ We’re fine.” Chris began “ we’ll let you in our group on one condition.”
“ Name it.” Bo said.
“ You gotta spend the night in the graveyard.” Max said.
“ on Halloween.” Chris added.
Bo was a bit hesitant at first.
“ Aw whats the matter?”  “ Scared?” Max teased.
“ No!” “no I aint scared a nuttin!” Bo said. “ I’ll meet ya at 8 tomorrow night.” Bo said.
“ Fine.” Max said.
Daisy walked down the hall when Enos walked in front of her. He started smiling. “Hey daisy.” He said as he kept grinning
Daisy smiled “ Hey Enos.” She said. “Whats up?” She added.
“ I – um…” He began. “ here” He sad as he handed her his Jell-O.  “I got that for you.” He said as he went on his way.
“ He sure got a crush on ya.” Alyssa said.
“ He is pretty cute.” Daisy said.
“ But not as cute as Trent !” Alyssa said giggling.
“ Oh yea I agree Trent is a cutie.” Daisy agreed giggling some. When she heard Max and Chris talking from the other table.
“ So we’ll get some stuff from the craft store and from your dad’s joke shop and we can scare the living daylights outta that Bo kid.” Chris said
“ It’ll be the best prank ever!” Max said. “We can bring my camera and take a picture of Bo’s face.” Max said laughing
“We’ll meet after school this afternoon to get the stuff and set it up tomorrow.” Chris said as the two boys walked off
“ I can’t let them do that to Bo.” Daisy said to Alyssa.
“What are we gonna do?” Alyssa said
“ I don’t know lemmie think about it.” Daisy said.
Just then Trent walked up to the table.
“Hello Ladies.” Trent smiled as he greeted them.
“Hey Trent .” They giggled together
Trent smiled again. “ So Daisy do you have a date to the dance yet?” He asked.
“ No.” Daisy said smiling  I hope he asks me she thought to herself.
“ You wanna go with me?” Trent asked
Daisy paused for a second or two then replied. “ yes!” … “ I’d love to!” Daisy said smiling.
“ Great.” Trent said “I’ll pick ya up at 7.” Rent said as he winked to  Daisy and walked off.
“ He is sooo dreamy!” Alyssa said smiling
“ Oh yea!” Daisy said
“ What are ya gonna go as?” Alyssa asked.
“ Annie Oakley.” Daisy said.
“ that’s cool I’m going as a biker.” Alyssa said. “ I love Halloween.” She added.
“ Me too.” Daisy agreed.
Enos saw that Trent had asked Daisy out his smile faded some. He wanted to ask her out but he couldn’t bring the words out. Daisy spotted him.
“ Hey whats wrong sugar?” Daisy asked.
“ nutin Daisy here ya go.” Enos said as he put the flower he’d pick next to her.  “ course no flower in Hazard’s prettier than you.” Enos said smiling then walked off.
“ He sure is a sweetheart.” Alyssa said.
Daisy nodded in agreement.
Enos walked down the halls when Trent and his friends stopped him.
“ I saw ya talking to my girl Daisy.” Trent said.
“ Well she ain’t yer property.” Enos said.
“ Look just watch it Strate.” Trent said as he went to punch Enos but he didn’t he just wanted to intimidate him. “ Or you’ll be really sorry.” Trent said as he and his friends walked off
Halloween Night
“ Trents here!” Daisy said happily then went to her room to make sure she looked good.
Trent knocked on the door. He was dressed as a chick magnet. He was wearing a football jersey and a pair of jeans with a stuffed magnet around his neck with chicks stuck on to it. Jesse answered it and invited Trent in and started talking to him.
“Just remember one thing, if you hurt Daisy things are gonna get more than any monster or goblins ya see tonight…got it?” Jesse said sternly.
“ No problem Mr. Duke.” Trent said. Then Daisy walked out. “You look beautiful.” Trent said. “ ya ready?” He asked
“ Sure am.” Daisy said “Bye uncle Jesse.” Daisy said as she hugged him then she ant Trent headed out.
They drove to the High school. They’d manage to build a haunted house leading to the entrance of the gym just for fun.
“we’re here.” Trent said as he parked the car. Then helped daisy out of the car.
Daisy smiled “thanks” Daisy said as they walked in.
“ This place looks great.” Trent said. “Y’all did a great job.” Trent said as he kissed Daisy on her cheek
“ hey be right back “ Daisy said as she went to meet with her friends.
Enos walked up to Daisy and her friends. “ gosh Daisy, you sure look pretty.” He said smiling. “ I got ya a present.” He added handing her a bag of candy.
Daisy smiled and took the bag. “ Thanks Enos.” She said kissing him on the cheek.
Trent walked up behind Enos and pushed him. “ Hey I said not to talk to my girl.”
“ Stop that Trent !” Daisy said
“Stay outta this.” Trent said as he punched Enos
Daisy got Furious and grabbed a pumpkin and smashed it on Trend’s head. The other students started laughing at what Daisy had done.
 Daisy helped Enos “ you okay sweetie?” Daisy asked.
“ uh huh.” Enos began “ thanks.”
“ don’t mention it.” Daisy said. “ c’mon lets get outta here.” Daisy said as they headed out.
“ I’m really sorry I ruined your date daisy.” Enos apologized.
“ It ain’t yer fault Enos.” Daisy began. “He was just a jerk.” She added and put some ice on Enos’ bruised eye.
“ I’m leaving now uncle Jesse bye.” Bo said.
He told Jesse that  he was spending the night at Cooters.
“ Now you mind yer manners ok Bo.” Jesse said.
“ I will.” Bo said as he headed to the cemetery.
“Well look who finally showed up.” Chris said.
“ okay so where we gonna stay?” Bo asked.
“ Who said any thing bout we?” Max said.
“ Yea you’re on your own.”  Chris said.
Bo felt a bit scared but didn’t say anything.
“ are ya gonna chicken out?” Max teased.
“No, no I ain’t.” Bo said.
“ well ok see ya then.” Chris said as he and max walked out.
“ Remember ya gotta spend the whole night here and if you don’t you can’t be in our group.” Max said as they walked away from Bo and hid.
“I can’t wait to see the look on his face!” Max laughed.
“Me neither!” Chris chuckled.
Bo decided to wander around the graveyard not knowing of all the things Max and Chris did.
 “ Sure is creepy this time a night.” Bo said as he walked around.
Suddenly, a zombie rose up from the dirt. Bo yelped and jumped back setting off another trap. Bats tied to string while a tape of bats squeaking was played.
“Get away from me!” Bo said as he beat the bats away and ran when three skeletons with glowing red eyes and chattering teeth fell from another tree. Bo yelped and ran when something or someone caught him. It was a zombie an absolutely horrid thing.. He was about to scream when it put his hand on his mouth. Bo squirmed as it dragged him into the darkness.
Chris and Max looked at what happened, their laughs turned to gasps.
“What was that?” Max said.
“ I don’t know but we better run!” Chris said as he stood up and ran followed by Max.
The boys ran then looked back but bumped into two zombies. They held a firm grip on the boys.  Then a figure came to them it was Bo. He looked all bloody and was wearing old tattered clothes.
“ Ya left me ta die!” Bo said in a loud depressing voice.
“ We….didn’t mean it fer that!” Chris said scared as he squirmed
“ yea it was all supposed ta be a joke!” Max said.
“ I guess I can forgive you…….but you have to do something.” Bo said.
“ name it we’ll do it!” Max said
“ Give me yer costumes!” Bo said.
“ I’ve only got my boxers underneath!” Chris said.
Bo growled. “ Do it!” he said
The boys jumped and took of their costumes in less than three seconds.
“ there happy?” Chris said.
“ No.” Bo said…..” Squawk like chickens!” Bo said.
Chris and max looked at each other and started squawking when a bucket of chocolate syrup and feathers fell on them.
“ Smile guys!” Daisy as she came out holding a camera  with night vision.
Chris and max looked at each other confused.
“Wha?” Max began.
The two zombies that held them took their masks off. It was Enos and Cletus
Bo started laughing. And pulled wiped the paint off of him. “ I aint dead.” He said chuckling.
“ I overheard you tryin to scare my cousin.” Daisy said “now get for I turn y’all into ghosts!” Daisy said.
“ Not with out my camera.” Max said.
“ Ya mean this?” Daisy said as she opened the camera and destroyed the film. Then, handed the camera to the boys. “ now get!” Daisy said as she went to punch the guys.
The guys took off in their boxers covered with chocolate syrup and feathers.
“Thanks for helping me guys.” Bo said.
“ Don’t mention it Bo.” Daisy said as she hugged him.
“ Yea no problem.” Enos said smiling.
“ one fer all and all fer one.” Cletus said.
