Dukes in Canada, pt. 5

Two weeks passed by mighty quick. Bo was still feeling a force of sickness.
Luke and Jud came to visit Bo before the match. “If he tries to make us box
each other I’m out,” Jud stated.

“No kidding, I wouldn’t want to be caught dead punching you out. We’ve been
practicing all week. Weight trainin’ the works,” Luke assured.

“Bo, I want you in a big soft bed when you come out.”

“Or at least a soft couch.”

“I guess I could go for that. Though the prison bed that Enos made is mighty
comfy. Good luck to y’all,” Bo said.

“Good luck yourself. You just stay rested and those ribs will heal in no
time,” Luke remarked.

“Well only if you promise not to get yourselves killed.”

“We promise.”

“I want to see my cousins pick me up not watch a funeral.”

“We got to go buddy, see you later.”

Dukes in Canada, pt. 4

Later…

Enos went to give the fellas their lunch when he saw Bo laying on the floor
out like a light. Now his immediate reaction was to go see if Bo was okay.
That isn’t a bad thing to do for a friend. But when you forget to take your
gun off that can be a problem. He went into the cell and knelt down beside
Bo, patting his face. Milo grabbed the gun and pointed it at Bo’s head as he
picked him up. “You better not try anything copper or your buddy over here
is gonna die,” Milo stated.

Enos looked at Bo with a deep concern. He sat down on the bed and let Milo
lock him in the cell. Milo looked at Bo, who was still very knocked out and
laughed. Always was a wimp, he thought to himself. As he got upstairs,
naturally, Rosco gave Milo the gun and he too was locked in a cell.

Milo went outside and carried Bo with him. He jumped into Rosco’s police
car. He tried to start the engine but it wasn’t working so well. In fact,
the machine was broken. He kept trying to start it with no luck.

Now Cooter across the street could hear a broken engine from just anywhere.
He looked up from General’s hood and saw Bo in the car. Well, not all of Bo,
just that mop of hair. Then Cooter saw an even worse sight, Milo Beaudry in
the front seat. He had no time to radio the boys about it.

Milo switched cars, taking Enos’ car instead, with Bo at his side. Cooter
put the General’s hood down, jumped in and followed. “I might be crazy but I
ain’t dumb, this is Crazy Cooter lookin’ for lost sheep number one. Are ya
out there Luke buddy?” Cooter asked.

The Ransom: Chapter 8

by: Kristy Duke

Through the old boards that cover the two small windows, small rays of light slowly begin to shine through to spread a little light across the cold and dark room. As night slowly turns into morning, I continue to stare at the boards while attempting to embrace all that had happened yesterday afternoon, of the horror and violence that had taken Luke’s life. Just like it could take Cooter’s life. Fighting with the tears that continue to water my eyes, I silently shift my thoughts as Luke’s dead voice whispers, ‘Don’t worry about me, cuz, worry about yourself. Get out, escape.’ I shake my head in disagreement as I listen in to the boy’s soft snoring as he lies on the floor besides me, able to sleep through the night in spite the nightmare he is living.

Through the closed door, loud and squeaky footsteps become audible as they grow closer with each step. Keith abruptly sits up, gasping breathlessly besides me. “You hear that?” he questions, fear and panic captures his normally calm tone, “They’re coming.”

I glance at him as his green eyes light up wildly with fear to express the horror he’s been through for the first time since I’ve met him. “I hear it,” I slowly state, attempting to be calm as the door is thrown open and a tall broad shouldered man walks in, his hood down and through the shadows I slowly make out his rough face.

At about the same time, Buck and Joel were on their way to the Boar’s Nest to see their partner-in-crime. They walked in as Boss Hogg was eating his raw liver breakfast.

“Well, how do you do Mr. Hogg.”

“Howdy boys. You’re here for your pay?”

“Yes Mr. Hogg. But you see, we decided what you was paying us wasn’t quite enough,” Buck said.

“Huh?”

“Open the safe fat man.” Boss’s eyes widened. They were robbing him.

“Now just a minute. You can’t do this. All that money is for the children’s funds and for the orphans.”

The Darkness Within, ch. 8

by: MacSas

The following afternoon, Luke and Shawna decided to take a drive so they could talk privately. As much as Luke loved his family, they made no excuses for being curious about his relationship with Shawna. Though Luke had told his family about Shawna when they had been dating, he hadn’t told them that he had met the woman he wanted to marry. He’d kept that to himself, hadn’t even discussed it with Shawna. It was just as well, he thought now. He’d been in no position to marry her or give her a secure life.

When he’d first met Shawna she’d been a fiery, stubborn, independent girl of sixteen. She’d just moved out of her family’s home in San Antonio and was making a life of her own. It would have been the classic tale of waitress falls for newbie recruit, except there had been no happy ending for them. Luke had never led her on though. He may have seen her as the girl he could settle down with, if they’d met in another time, but Shawna had nursed no illusions about their relationship. She knew that he was starting a new career and was not willing to give it up for permanence at home. She wouldn’t have asked him to either, no matter how much in love she’d been with him. He didn’t want to go into combat leaving a new bride behind, possibly making her a widow before she had become used to being a wife. What kind of life would she have had?

Luke smiled. Well, he now knew what kind of life she would have had. The same she had now…Just with a different husband.
