A Hazzardous Leap, Prolouge

by: Keith

PROLOGUE
Theorizing that one could time-travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator….and vanished! He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so, Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life. Striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping, each time, that his next leap will be the leap home….

(When the leap is over, Sam finds himself in the passenger seat of an orange car, moving very fast and wrecklessly along a dirt road. He is wearing a blue plaid shirt with rolled-up sleeves, jeans, and a belt with a buck knife attached. He looks over at the driver. A young blonde man grinning ear to ear and chuckling. The blonde man is wearing a tan shirt with rolled-up sleeves, jeans, and a belt with a buck knife attached. Sam hears a police siren and looks out the back window.)

SAM: (to Bo) I think that cop wants us to pull over.

BO: Luke, are you outta your dang mind? You know if I pull over now, Rosco’s just gonna give us another phony speedin’ ticket.

SAM: (thinking to himself) Leaping into other people’s lives during heated situations had left me with a detective’s instincts. As a result, I’d learned to start gathering clues about myself and those around me from the moment of leap-in. Right now, for instance, I and the driver were apparently on a first-name basis with the police, and I should know exactly what “Rosco” was up to.

(Rosco’s voice comes over the CB)

ROSCO: Alright, you Duke boys! This is Sheriff Roscooooo P. Coltrane! I’m serious now!! I’m ording you to pull that vehicle over, Bo!

SAM: (thinking) I’d only been here about thirty seconds, and already, people were filling in the blanks faster than I could think of blanks to fill in. The policeman chasing us, who apparently really liked the sound of his own name, was the local sheriff. My name was Luke. The driver, who I guessed was most likely my brother, was Bo and our last name was Duke. (chuckling and whispering) My name rhymes.

BO: Well, cousin, Dry Creek is just up ahead. I reckon the General will make it over that pretty easy. Should be clear sailin’ from there.

SAM: (thinking) Cousin….I was close. But now Bo had given me a new mystery to solve. Who the “General” was, and how his making it over the upcoming creek was going to help us escape the sheriff.

(Sam gets a look of panic on his face as he realizes that the creek bed is getting closer and closer and Bo obviously has no intention of stopping or slowing down.)

SAM: Bo, What are you doing??

BO: (shrugs) Just gonna loose Rosco. No big deal.

SAM: Loose Rosco? And just how do you intend to do that??

BO: (grinning) Same way we loose him every other time, Luke. Hang on!

(Sam shuts his eyes tightly and clenches the seat with his hands. We get our first exterior shot of the General Lee as it hits the creek bed and launches into the air. With the General Lee in mid-air, Sam can be heard screaming)

SAM: (screaming) OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Father’s Revenge, ch. 1

by: Marty Chrisman

Luke Duke pushed open the door to the Boar’s Nest and stepped inside the bar. He was ruggedly handsome young man in his early twenties with sapphire blue eyes and dark brown wavy hair. With his lean muscular build and good ole boy southern charm every girl in Hazzard County fantasized about being his girlfriend. (And a lot of them had been at one time or another) But Luke had no intention of settling down to just one girl. He liked playing the field. Maybe someday he would meet that special someone but it just hadn’t happened yet.

Since it was a Friday night, the bar was crowded and noisy. Several friends called out greetings as Luke made his way through the room towards the bar. Luke’s cousin, Daisy Duke, was working behind the bar. She was a pretty girl with long reddish brown hair and big blue eyes. In her early twenties, she was one of the most popular girls in Hazzard County. But anyone who went out with Daisy knew better than to step out of line. If they did they knew they would have to deal with her cousins, Bo and Luke, and nobody in their right minds wanted to tangle with either one of the Duke boys.

Daisy smiled when she saw her oldest cousin come into the bar. She quickly filled a mug with beer and sat it down on the bar for him. Her youngest cousin, Bo, was already there. He was sitting at a booth in the back with his latest flame, Carla Morrison. With his baby blue eyes, feathery blonde hair, and boyish good looks, Bo was just as popular with the ladies as Luke was. Both of the boys were considered a prime catch. Luke finally made his way through the crowd to the bar and smiled his thanks as he picked up the beer Daisy had already poured for him.

The Lucky Star (1865)

by: Delilah Kelly

Summer 1865

The Coltrane house was full of people now. Toby and Dulcie had come back to their house on the Evans land, where they were looking after the crops. Joe and Martha Evans’ decision to leave the cabin to Toby and Dulcie had proved to be a good one as both former slaves remained on their lands, though they were free now. They had nowhere else to go either. The Evanses were still living with their daughter. They were going to their farm everyday to work there and try to rebuild a life along with a home for themselves.

Katrina was now the real head of the house. Mrs. Coltrane had left her most of the responsibilities regarding the house and its organization and management of life inside. The old lady was tired and she only helped her for the cooking and looking after the children. Victoria and Rosco Lee were growing in good health, though the baby girl would not be as strong as her father. She was more looking like Katrina herself. Both children were constantly surrounded by family love, their grandparents, their mother, their cousin. Only their father was missing and Rosco Lee was sometimes asking for his father in a most insistent way that broke his mother’s heart.

Katrina was strong, she always kept a smiling poker face on – to her kin’s admiration. But inside her heart, she was desperate. Nobody at home dared mention Rosco’s demise. Nobody suggested to die clothes in black, in sign of mourning. Katrina knew that one day or so, she would have to do so but she postponed the moment. Next Spring… Next Summer… At Christmas… She could not admit that Rosco had died. She cried in her bed at night, but something deep inside her heart told her he was still alive somewhere.

Katrina was not the only one to feel as such. MaryAnne felt the same too. The young Deputy had resumed her duties quickly, coordinating the solidarity around. She tried to remain busy as much as possible to forget that her elder cousin was probably dead. His death would mean another Sheriff would have to be elected. MaryAnne knew she could not be elected as such – though Hazzard folks appreciated her skills and dedication to the County. Another Sheriff may not choose her as his Deputy and she would have to give up a job she liked very much. Only Rosco could admit a woman among his Sheriff’s Department staff.
