Critical Decisions, ch. 2

Over the next few weeks, Luke and Kelly spent as much time together as possible. With each passing day, their love grew deeper and stronger. It wasn’t long before everyone in Hazzard knew that one of the Duke Boys had been spoken for. More than one girl in Hazzard Country felt the sharp sting of disappointment and envied Kelly, wishing that they were in her place. One girl in particular.

Christy Lane kept stealing glances at Luke and Kelly. It was a disgrace the way he was hanging on every word that little piece of trash said. And the way he kept looking at her. You could just tell they were sleeping together. Christy felt a pang of jealousy so strong she could taste it. She knew just how good Luke was in bed and she missed his loving. She’d do just about anything to keep him from mooning over that little blonde

“I gotta go on in about fifteen minutes.” Kelly told Luke. “I’m gonna sing that new song I wrote.”

“Good, I like that song.” Luke said with a grin. But then he liked everything Kelly wrote. She was one of the best song writers he’d ever known (And Luke knew a couple of guys from Hazzard that had gone to Nashville and became pretty good writers)

Kelly had been singing at the Boar’s Nest on the weekends ever since that first weekend when the band had made Luke get up on stage with her. Boss Hogg was in Hogg heaven. She brought in the crowds better than the band ever had before. The crowd always insisted that Luke sing a couple of songs with her, no matter how hard he tried to beg off. The truth was he enjoyed it. He had always loved singing with Kelly and he had missed singing with a live band.

Lost and Found

“Thanks for your help Cooter!” Chet shouted back as he slid threw Crush’s window and into the drivers seat.

Cooter Davenport smiled and nodded. “Your very welcome, will I see yas tomorrow to give this thing that tune up?”

“You bet! I’ll see ya Coot, got to get more gas in this thing before it gives out on me.” Chet gave Cooter a side was grin and pealed out of the drive in front of the garage. Cooter just smiled and shook his head.

Chet drove around town square and down main street leading out of town, he slowed an pulled the Charger up to the pump out front of the 24 hour Kiwki Mart. He fished a $20 bill out of his pocket and slide out the cars window to pump the gas, it would take more then twenty lousy dollars to fill the tank, but 3/4 was enough for now.

Finished pumping the gas he closed the cap on the classic car and stepped back to admire it, for the millionth time since he’d owned it, but for the first time he was admiring it in Hazzard. Sighing tiredly he shook himself from his gaze of admiration and went inside the Kiwki Mart to pay for the gas, he smiled at the lady behind the counter.

“$20 dollars in gas.” He said and was about to place the cash on the counter for her to ring into the cash register.

Critical Decisions, ch. 1

Sunlight filtering through the bedroom window woke Luke up. It took a minute for him to remember where he was. Until he felt the warmth of Kelly’s body cradled in his arms. She was still asleep, curled up against him with her head resting on his shoulder. Luke couldn’t help smiling as memories from the night before slipped into his mind. He had intended to bring her home and then go home himself, but that didn’t happen. A goodnight kiss had ignited the burning passion between them, the passion of their renewed love for each other. Much later, Luke had finally remembered to call home to let Jesse know he wouldn’t be home that night. He didn’t tell Jesse where he was spending the night but he was sure Jesse had probably already figured that out for himself. (Especially since Luke had left the Boar’s nest with Kelly the night before)

Kelly’s eyes fluttered open and she smiled at him, snuggling closer as his arm tightened around her. “I could get used to waking up like this.” She said, tilting her head for his good morning kiss.

“So could I” Luke said with a chuckle, letting his hand wander freely across the body he remembered so well.

“You want some breakfast?” Kelly whispered with a playful gleam in her eyes, as she slid her arms around his neck.

“Later,” he whispered “I got something better in mind right now…”  He kissed her deeply, as he shifted positions so that she was lying beneath him. Later, much later, they took a shower together and then got dressed.

Orange Crush

“Breyer, will you help me peal some potatoes for lunch? Enos , Daisy, Luke and Jessie Mae should be here soon an we really need to get it done.”

“Sure Ma’, potatoes are out on the porch right?” Breyer Duke asked his mother Gaby Duke as he stepped out onto the old farm houses front porch.

He sat down in one of the chairs on the porch an picked the pealing knife up off the small table between his chair and the other. With a deep sigh he began to peal the potatoes in the burlap sack like his mother had asked, but his heart just didn’t seem to be into it, the gloom in the air was heavy. Usually he was the first one to start helping with a big meal, but on this day melancholy ached his heart and the usual soft smile on his face was broken into a distant frown.

Blinking his eyes he tried to deny the tears that burned there as he cut the now pealed potato into chunks and placed them into the clean bowl for washing. Again he sighed, winning away the tears that ached him, but not winning away the empty spot in his heart that had been there for the past eight years.

Loving on Borrowed Time, ch. 8

by: Marty Chrisman

The next three weeks passed more quickly than Luke could have imagined. The morning he left Hazzard it was overcast and cloudy which pretty much fit Luke’s mood.

He had already said goodbye to his friends and now it was time to say goodbye to his family. Uncle Jesse, Bo and Daisy had all accompanied him to the bus station. In fifteen minutes, he would be getting on a bus and leaving Hazzard for the next four years.

“I’m gonna miss you” Daisy said giving him a big hug.

“You take care of yourself now.” Jessie said in an usually gruff voice. “And make sure to write and call whenever you can.”

“I will. I promise.” Luke told him, giving his uncle a big hug. It was harder than he thought to actually say goodbye and he knew it wouldn’t be easy stepping on that bus. But he needed to do this, he needed to get away from the memories that lingered everywhere he went in Hazzard, memories of Kelly and the short time they’d had together. Luke smiled as he turned to Bo. He knew that Bo would be almost grown when he got back and he wondered how his absence would affect their relationship.

“I’m gonna miss you, Luke” Bo said, wrapping his arms around Luke’s waist and holding on tightly.

“I’m gonna miss you too.” Luke told him, hugging him tightly. He straightened up and took one last look at his family. It was time to go.
