Now over on the Duke farm, Daisy and Jesse were getting ready to go visit an
old sick friend over in Maine, leaving poor old Bo and Luke to fend for
themselves. With their cooking I’d say they’d last about two hours. But Bo
had been working on it with a girl that he stole from Luke. “I’ll see y’all
later, I left a few meals frozen. Just try not to burn down the house while
I’m gone,” Jesse stated.
“Don’t worry, I’m used to babysitting Bo,” Luke teased.
“I’ll be sure to give Luke his bottle every three hours,” Bo ragged.
“No fighting boys or I’ll get Cooter to tan your hides, a personal favor,”
Uncle Jesse scolded and with that that they were off driving Dixie. The
General was in the shop and the pick-up needed a good tune-up. So of course
Dixie went into battle.
Bo and went into the kitchen and began to think about what they were going
to do without their uncle and cousin. “Well here’s the deal, we can save the
frozen dinners ‘till we need them or eat them now,” Luke thought out loud.
“Well I figure you’ll mess up the cooking,” Bo laughed.
“Me? You cook as good as Rosco drives!”
“Not anymore, I’ve been getting lessons. I bet you I could cook a better
meal than you ever could.”
“You’re on Bo! Loser washes dishes ‘till Uncle Jesse gets back.”
“Now you’re talking.”
Meanwhile, in the abandoned saw mill…
Two men were planning to rob the bank. Two old buddies of Bo and Luke and
this can be a problem. Cal Jameson was about 6’4 with long black slick hair
and deep blue eyes. Where as Kevin Tate was 5’4 with green eyes and had
short brown hair.
These two boys were very good friends of Bo and Luke. You see, they entered
in the Nascar circuit and didn’t do so well. The problem wasn’t with their
driving. It was their car. Since then they’d been charged of murder and
wanted in four different states for bank robbing and all sorts of other
things. Now these were two mean fellas. “We’re going to do this tomorrow,”
Kevin stated.
“I can’t believe we’re still doing this,” Cal mumbled.
“Look, we’re at the end of the line, always runnin’ from the law. You know
we can’t just turn ourselves in. With that death penalty and all.”
“Quit reminding me! If you didn’t kill him we would’ve…”
“I had no choice. He saw my face remember?” Cal wiped away tears that were
coming. “What you gonna cry now?”
“Just leave me alone, you’ll never understand.” Cal walked out of the mill
and went into the back. He wished his life were different in some way. He
wished he could change it.
On the main road…
Cooter was pulling in with the General Lee; he looked like new since the
last bang up job he encountered in battle. Just as he pulled up, Cooter
heard the two boys fighting over something. He knocked on the door. “Door’s
open!” Bo screamed. Cooter walked in.
“Ah, Cooter, just the man I wanted to see. Try this,” Luke stated. He held
out a fork containing a bite of Shepard’s pie. Well at least it seemed to be
Shepard’s pie. The potato crust was completely brown. Not crispy brown
either. Everything was burnt even the carrots were overcooked. No wonder
Cooter didn’t want to eat over when Luke cooked.
“Umm, I don’t know about this,” Cooter stated. Cooter tried it and had one
of the most distasteful look on his face. He chewed and chewed, finally
swallowing. “Luke’s cooking right?”
“Hey I tried!” Bo held out his small portion. But did Cooter want to risk
two people’s cooking in one day? He was hungry so Coot decided to try the
piece of Shepard’s pie. He examined the piece on the fork. It looked okay.
He put it in his mouth, chewed. He was savoring it to last bite.
“Can I have a piece of pie?”
“See I told you I was good.”
“Not yours, Bo’s.”
“And I told you I was better. I win, you’re doing the dishes,” Bo laughed.
“That wasn’t fair,” Luke mumbled.
“Why not? Mine was better wasn’t it?”
“Best two out of three?”
“You can’t make food and you know it.”
“The only reason you actually did good was because you stole Betty Sue.”
“I did not steal her she came to me. Betty Sue can’t resist my charm.
Besides, you’re too old for her.”
“Too old my eye!”
“She wanted me because I’m young and fresh.”
“Sure she did.”
The phone rang and Cooter picked it up. “Hello, Dukes residence, Cooter
speaking…uh huh…sure you can talk to Luke. Hey it’s for you.”
“It’s probably Betty Sue,” Luke stated.
“Not unless she went through puberty over night,” Cooter replied.
“Come again?”
“It’s a guy.”
“Hello? Hey Jud…you don’t say. How long? No way…you’re not staying in a
hotel…we’re family…okay, bye.”
“Well are you going to leave us in suspense or are you going to tell me what
my cousin said?” Bo asked.
“He’s coming to Hazzard for five months.”
“Five months!” Bo let out a high-pitched yahoo.
“My brother’s coming to town!”
“Wait a minute! Luke, you have a brother?” Cooter asked.
“Yeah, we thought he died a long time ago but they were wrong.”
“Well then, I better get to know this fellow. Nice guy?”
“He’s my brother ain’t he?”
Meanwhile, at an old abandoned mill…
Cal talked Kevin out of robbing the bank for a couple of months. Only two
months though, it didn’t seem like enough time. Cal hated living in the dark
and always having to live off of stolen money and raided dreams. But at
least that wouldn’t happen for a while. Kevin and Cal still had enough money
to live off of for that long.
On the Hazzard farm…
Jud arrived with style jumping over the duke barn, a trick he’d picked up at
his last visit in Hazzard. As he got out of his car, both his cousin and
brother smothered Jud in hugs. “Nice to see you too,” Jud said. He grabbed
the bags out of his car.
“Oh, Bo will get that,” Luke kindly stated.
“Nice to be volunteered,” Bo mumbled as he picked up the bags. Cooter was in
the kitchen cutting himself another piece of Bo’s pie. As the group entered
in Cooter looked at the man who was Luke’s brother.
Luke was so happy to have his brother there. It made him happy to see how
wonderful he had turned out.
