The next three weeks passed more quickly than Luke could have imagined. The morning he left Hazzard it was overcast and cloudy which pretty much fit Luke’s mood.
He had already said goodbye to his friends and now it was time to say goodbye to his family. Uncle Jesse, Bo and Daisy had all accompanied him to the bus station. In fifteen minutes, he would be getting on a bus and leaving Hazzard for the next four years.
“I’m gonna miss you” Daisy said giving him a big hug.
“You take care of yourself now.” Jessie said in an usually gruff voice. “And make sure to write and call whenever you can.”
“I will. I promise.” Luke told him, giving his uncle a big hug. It was harder than he thought to actually say goodbye and he knew it wouldn’t be easy stepping on that bus. But he needed to do this, he needed to get away from the memories that lingered everywhere he went in Hazzard, memories of Kelly and the short time they’d had together. Luke smiled as he turned to Bo. He knew that Bo would be almost grown when he got back and he wondered how his absence would affect their relationship.
“I’m gonna miss you, Luke” Bo said, wrapping his arms around Luke’s waist and holding on tightly.
“I’m gonna miss you too.” Luke told him, hugging him tightly. He straightened up and took one last look at his family. It was time to go.
